Poem: You live

you live for an echo
far away in the soul
twine in your throat
dripping out beauty
time’s narrow thimble
a place to slip out happy
sipping spring
along the jets of an ocean
an azure motion wavers inside
the dawn cloaks it with shade
to save it from eternal revolutions
the vertebrae stack up odd
the abacus fills with attempts
between steps and turns I observe
that the path is slow slow beating my elbow
against the smear of the day
and discovering that death
was just plasterboard
love the sacrament
the only one granted
